We Are Here: a regional campaign on Arab women's role in peacemaking
UN Women. Documenting the stories of women political activists in conflict-affected countries, for policymakers and the public.
Egypt · Iraq · Libya · Palestine · Syria · Tunisia · Yemen
The question
Women in Arab countries affected by armed conflict often risk their careers, and sometimes their lives, to help build peace. How could their work reach policymakers and a wider public?
Research and data
The campaign began with the stories themselves, documenting selected women political activists in their own words.
The plan
Working with donors, governments, media and NGOs, the campaign shared those stories with policymakers and with regional and international audiences. It also invited women across the region to share their own stories on social media. The wider role covered a three-year communications strategy for the EU-funded Spring Forward for Women program and the brand for the Khadija Arab women economic empowerment network.
The result
The campaign earned positive coverage from outlets including CNN, BBC and Sky News, and women across the region added their own stories on social media.
